Most people avoid severe storms. Hurricane hunters fly into them! They specialize in studying storms and collecting data from specific locations.
Specially modified turboprop aircrafts with sensors on outer surfaces fly in and out of the eye of a hurricane. They also run sorties by flying through the edges where the wind speed and turbulence is at a maximum. Each mission can last for up to 11 hours.
